5G in Healthcare Airtel Apollo AWS Conducts First 5G AI-Driven Colonoscopy Study | Jobs Reply


Bharti Airtel and Apollo Hospitals announced on Thursday that they have conducted India’s first 5G-powered, artificial intelligence-guided colonoscopy trials. The study was conducted using AI on Airtel’s 5G technology with ultra-low latency and high processing capacities, resulting in much faster and more accurate detection of colon cancer, the companies said in a joint regulatory filing on Thursday.

HealthNet Global, AWS, and Avesha are the other three companies that collaborated on these studies. According to the current protocol, colon cancer is detected through a colonoscopy procedure, which is manual and requires great attention and time on the part of physicians for accurate detection.

This procedure is performed using a device that includes a light, flexible tube with a light, camera, and tools on one end that are used to take samples to identify an infected polyp. Not only is the procedure lengthy, it is also inconvenient for patients and for the doctors and nurses who have to perform this procedure, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes per case, the statement said.

As a result of the AI-guided colonoscopy procedure, the image processing occurred in real-time without any delay, even when the doctor moved the endoscope through the colon to overlay the right element of the colon. The advent of this technology gives doctors an “extra pair of eyes” and improves the detection rate of polyps, saving lives and greatly improving patient care.

The data was processed in real-time by Avesha edge inferencing applications on AWS platforms, ensuring analysis closer to the endpoints. The AI-assisted polyp detection colonoscopy study will help physicians improve the quality of patient care, improve the accuracy of detection rates by correctly capturing information and reducing errors, the joint statement said.
