MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Resolve to spend more time in parks in 2023!

It’s never been easier thanks to the great family activities the Monmouth County Park System has lined up for the month. Here is the schedule:

Wonderful Winter Walks

Manasquan Reservoir, Howell – Meet in the Environmental Center parking lot.

Bring your winter gear and tag along with a Park System Naturalist as you explore the park this winter. Open to all ages; Under 18s with adults. Please note that sturdy shoes are recommended as the paths used may have slopes or tree roots to step on. FREE!

Cutting, dividing and cutting

January 8, Sunday 12-2:30 p.m

Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel

Warm up with a two-man saw and splitting wedge, and learn how farmers used a froe to drill tile or a broad ax to cut beams. Open to adults. FREE!

Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch – Meet at the pavilion.

Join a Park System Naturalist for a leisurely morning birding walk and walk around for about an hour and a half and see what birds we can find. You don’t need to be an expert in bird identification to enjoy this tour. A limited number of binoculars will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. FREE!

Nature Lecture Series: All About Brook Trout – The State Fish of New Jersey

Freneau Woods Park Visitor Centre, Aberdeen

Come to this talk by a Park System Naturalist and learn about the history and ecology of trout, as well as the problems they face. FREE!

National Seed Swap Day

January 28, Saturday, from 10 to 11

Freneau Woods Park Visitor Centre, Aberdeen

Bring the seeds (at least five) in an envelope with the name of the plant, the year it was collected and where it was purchased or received. No invasive species. Seeds can be dropped off in advance at Huber Woods Environmental Center, Middletown. FREE!

Seaside Open Doors Conference

January 29, Sunday from 13:00 to 16:00

Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park Activity Center, Long Branch

Come along to our annual Open House and enjoy some seaside fun. Hands-on activities will entertain and educate you and your family about the coast and the sea. Talk to a Park System Naturalist about your shell collection or aquatic animals on display. You can even create a beach souvenir to take with you. FREE!
