Former LSU champ-turned-champion treats Ashdown kids to Christmas shopping spree | Jobs Reply

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KSLA) – Several students from Ashdown, Ark. had a shopping day on Friday, December 23 with a former student of the district, because of the Christmas-themed essay contest.

Former LSU baseball pitcher Jaden Hill, who now plays for the Colorado Rockies baseball team, hit a home run on Friday. The lady from Ashdown was back in the area giving back to the community.

“It’s something I wanted to do. I always wanted to give back to the community. I wanted to do it in a fun way. I just didn’t want to pick on people. I didn’t have anything in particular that I wanted to do, but you know, it’s Christmas time. “Everybody wants gifts, gifts that are wanted,” said Hill.

Hill took two Ashdown 5th graders shopping before the holidays. He chose the children following an essay writing competition on the topic: what Christmas means to you. After receiving dozens of articles, Jalie Woods and Debrad Jones Jr. they were chosen for this shopping spree.

“It means spending more time with my mother, who I haven’t seen in a while and I will be seeing my little brother for the first time,” said Woods.

“Supporting people and giving people gifts,” said Jones.

Each child was given $500 to shop at Academy Sports and Outdoors in Texarkana. This is the first giveaway Hill has held, but he says he hopes to do more in the future.

Hill had this advice for the Ashdown children:

“Follow your dreams, whether you want to be a professional athlete or you want to get a degree or work any job, so chase your dream, work hard in everything you do, and anything is possible.”
