CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Several popular holiday events around the Charlotte area have announced their closure Friday, citing inclement weather.

As of Friday evening, the following events are closed today:

  • WinterFest at Carowinds
  • Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
  • Charlotte Knights ‘Light the Knights’ Festival

Today, Mecklenburg County and surrounding counties a Wind AdviceWith gusts as high as 40 mph across the region.

A Special Weather Statement A cold wave has also been issued for the region.

As the arctic air mass moves in, temperatures have dropped, sitting in the mid to upper 20s in Charlotte on Friday afternoon. Overnight and Saturday morning, temperatures will drop into the low-teens.

In the mountains of North Carolina, wind gusts can reach 55 mph. As a result, a Wind chill warning has been declared because it could feel like 30 below zero in parts of the northwestern part of the state.
