HUNTINGTON, NY – The Huntington Public Library has announced its first events for 2023. Here are some January workshops coming to the library at 338 Main St., Huntington.

Event: Starting the New Year with a healthy diet

Date: January 4, Wednesday
Time: 11:00 am
Description: Stephanie Schiff, dietitian, nutritionist and certified diabetes care and education specialist at Northwell Health’s Huntington Hospital, will discuss nutrition and wellness goals for the New Year. Schiff has been a featured speaker on 1010 WINS and News 12 Long Island. This program is sponsored by the Town of Huntington Public Libraries. Registration is required. Open to all.

Event: Winter Birds of Long Island: Owls

Description: Those wise guys from LI…Owls!! Fascinating, mysterious and beautiful! Owls are all of these things, and we see a lot of them here on Long Island. With lots of photos and fun and interesting facts, longtime Long Island birder Dianne Taggart tells people all about these magnificent and wonderful birds. Registration is required. Open to all.

Event: Discussion of Winter Weather with Island Weather: Food, Storms and more

Description: Please join Glen and Don on the Islandwide Weather Facebook group to discuss what we can expect this winter and how best to prepare for winter 2022/23. Don and Glen have extensive knowledge in the field and have been studying meteorology for over 40 years. His daily routine of posting forecasts and severe weather systems as they impact Long Island has garnered him over 63,000 followers on Facebook. Islandwide Weather LLC is now the Facebook page for many on Long Island and has become a trusted source of weather information for people’s daily lives. Registration is required. Open to all.

Description: Learn the traditional patterns found in clothing, tapestries and home decor that have been sewn for centuries. Explore simple, tailor-made patterns for beginners and follow easy-to-understand instructions. Attendees will cross the Ukrainian rose pattern to keep. Registration is required. Huntington Public Library cardholders only.

Event: Piano Recital with Christian Verfenstein
Place: Main Auditorium
Date: January 15, Sunday
Time: 14:00
Description: Christian Verfenstein started playing the piano at the age of 6 and has studied with many teachers, including Young-Ah Tak at the Crane School of Music and Julian Martin at the Juilliard Pre-College. He has won numerous awards, including First Prize in the Alexander & Buono International Piano Competition, First Prize in the North Shore Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and First Prize in the Crane Concerto Competition. Christian is auditioning for a master’s degree in piano performance. He will perform the works of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. Registration is required. Open to all.
