Nokia and A1 Telekom achieve 2 Gbit/s in the 5G CA test | Jobs Reply

The two companies successfully verified 3-component carrier aggregation (3CC CA) in the study, which will enable operators to achieve higher throughputs and better coverage by combining different frequencies to efficiently use their spectrum resources.

Mark Atkinson, SVP of Radio Access Networks at Nokia, said: “Nokia is the market leader in implementing 5G carrier aggregation solutions across frequency combinations.

“It has been exciting to join our trusted partner A1 in this trial that demonstrates how carrier aggregation is a key stepping stone to achieve multi-gigabit 5G data rates and enable cellular network efficiencies.”

The trial used Nokia’s AirScale baseband, a 5G smartphone and a commercial 5G CPE over A1 Austria’s 5G network.

It combines two mid-band carriers in the 3.5 GHz TDD band and one capacity carrier in the 2100 MHz FDD band for a total bandwidth of 160 MHz using CA technology.

CA can also be used to combine low-band spectrum with mid-band spectrum to increase coverage of high downlink data rates.

According to Nokia, it is a key technology that will allow operators to optimize 5G spectrum without sacrificing performance and can help reduce the cost of deploying 5G networks.
