The Redmi Note 12 5G will be launched alongside the Redmi Note 12 Pro models and that’s why it could be a big deal.
The Redmi Note 12 5G will be launched on January 5th along with the Redmi Note 12 Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. Xiaomi’s marketing focus is currently on the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus with its 200MP camera sensor, but it’s this base model that could change things up for the budget-conscious smartphone buyer. This will be the first base model of the Redmi Note series to receive 5G support. And this one will be a big deal for the budget segment if Redmi opts for a Sub-Rs. 20000 starting price.
The biggest change in this year’s Redmi Note series is that Xiaomi is bringing them out of the Chinese market unchanged. Therefore, this is the real Redmi Note for China and the world to experience; not a watered down variant like the Redmi Note 11 series and Redmi Note 10 series.
Redmi Note 12 5G specifications at a glance
The Redmi Note 12 5G in China uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset that offers support for 5G network connectivity. In China, Xiaomi offers up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage and 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. This itself is a big upgrade over the Redmi Note 11 4G model that launched earlier this year.

Then there’s the ad. Xiaomi gives the Redmi Note 12 an AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a size of 6.67 inches. This is another improvement over the previous 90Hz OLED display used on the 4G models. There are few devices in the Sub-Rs. 20000 segment that offers a large and bright OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Apart from these upgrades, the Redmi Note 12 5G keeps its standard 5000mAh battery and gets Xiaomi’s 33W wired charging solution. The camera system on the back consists of a 48 MP main camera, a 2 MP portrait camera and a 2 MP secondary camera, while the selfie camera is an 8 MP sensor.
Redmi Note 12 5G expected prices
The Redmi Note 12 5G leaks haven’t said anything about prices yet. However, we expect the phone to have a starting price of less than Rs. 20,000. That could put it on par with several entry-level 5G devices from Motorola, Samsung, and Realme.
