Sowela is hosting a luncheon event with the jolly old elf herself

Residents of Southwest Louisiana will have the opportunity to experience the holiday opening ceremonies at Sowela Technical Community College this December.

The University’s Office of Workforce Solutions will be hosting 2 public events this Holiday Season: Brunch with Santa and the Sowela Holiday Meal Prep Event.

Up to 150 people can enjoy brunch prepared by Sowela faculty chefs at Brunch with Santa on Saturday, December 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Ana Denison, Workforce Solutions Business Developer, explained that Sowela wanted to provide an opportunity for locals to come together to celebrate the holidays. “The inspiration behind Brunch with Santa is to bring our community together and celebrate the holidays,” she said.

He continued by stating that this event will be a great opportunity for Sowela to showcase the talents of its culinary staff. “It also gives the community a chance to experience a meal prepared by Sowela’s expert chefs who run the short-term Culinary Essentials training program.”

The chef’s lunch menu will include eggs, biscuits, bacon, sausage, gravy and Sowela’s special hot chocolate.

Santa will be at the Brunch to take pictures with the attendees. Photos will be taken by a professional photographer, and will be available for $10 per photo. Photos will be available for download after the event.

Holiday meal preparation event

Sowela will also be hosting a festive kick-off event on Tuesday 20th December from 5.30pm to 9pm. macaroni and cheese – from Sowela faculty chefs.

Sowela’s hope is that this event will make the holiday season more enjoyable for SWLA residents.

“With the busy holiday season, we recognized the need to help relieve some of the stress in our community,” Denison said. “With the help of Sowela’s expert chefs, seasoned chefs and novices alike can eliminate trips to the grocery store and time spent planning a holiday meal. It really helps take the guesswork out of meal planning.”

Sowela’s 2 chefs will help participants independently create their own side dishes, which they will take home to eat with their families on vacation. “Attendees will be able to fully prepare their side dishes and take them home ready to heat and serve,” he said.

Side dishes will be served in 4-inch bowls, and will cost $20 per side. All ingredients and take-home pans included.
